Becoming a PADI Dive Master or PADI Instructor probably isn't as difficult or as expensive as you might think, however, there are a few of things that should be considered before you decide to take the plunge:
*You must be at least 18 years old.
*You should be in good general health. If you have medical issues, or have had any medical conditions in the past, which could affect your ability to scuba dive safely, you need to get yourself checked out by a doctor and obtain a medical statement declaring that you are fit and healthy to dive.
*You need to be able to swim at least 800 metres, as there are several swim tests conducted as part of the PADI Dive Master Course, which precedes the Instructor Development Course (IDC)
*There must be minimum time period of six months between the date you are certified for your PADI Open Water Course and the date your Instructor Examination (IE) begins. For example: If you finish your Open Water Course on 21/01/2009, you cannot start the IE part of your IDC before 21/07/2009. This is a PADI requirement. There are no time stipulations involving other courses.
