Fantasy Reef, is often the favourite site of dive professionals working in the Similan Islands. Fantasy Reef had been closed down in 1999 to all scuba diving activities as part of an ongoing reef conservation project. It was reopened after the December 2004 tsunami. However, you must still seek approval from the marine park police before jumping in and diving this site. Beautiful coral gardens lead down gently to intricate boulder formations, adorned with Gorgonian Fans and hard corals. Fantasy Reef took the full force of the tsunami, but the ecosystem has flourished here and the vast array of aquatic species to be found is astonishing. This site is like the Piccadilly Circus for fish in the Similans. It is brimming with sharks and other marine life. Expect to see larger guests pass by now and again in the blue and always expect surprises at this awesome dive site. |
