Christmas Point Similans

One pinnacle breaks the surface at Christmas Point to the northwest of Similan Island number nine. Submerged, are several splendid granite boulder formations. Some of these huge rocks are placed on top of one another giving rise to some fantastic swim throughs and archways. Large Harlequin and Oriental Sweetlips congregate around the entrances to the swim throughs, and the many cracks, canyons and crevices make for great photo opportunities! Occasional visits from Manta Rays also make it worth looking out into the blue now and again.

In the deeper areas towards the edges of the site, you could be treated to some Whitetips resting on the sandy areas, gently pumping water through their gills, waiting for darkness to close in so their nightly hunt can begin. Giant Barracuda float seeming motionless, watching and waiting for their next meal. Long Nosed Emperors, Purple Fire and Red Fire Gobies are a common sight here - great for macro photographers. Larger fish like Napoleon Wrasse can also be seen here, as well as Trevally, Tuna and Clown Triggerfish.

The currents can be strong here, so we recommend this site for intermediate divers and above. It's a deep dive site so would be suited to the first dive of the day.
