Scorpion Fish Bungalow Bay

Bungalow Bay is a sheltered bay located on the northern edge of Koh Racha Yai. It is primarily a dive site for the high season months when the easterly winds make the eastern coast of Racha Yai inaccessible due to choppy seas. There can be a lot of boats here on certain days, and although we've only rated this site as 2.5 stars, it still has some exquisite gems to offer even the most experienced diver. Due to its sheltered position, Bungalow Bay has only mild currents making for easy diving conditions. It's an ideal site for training dives as it has a gently sloping sandy bottom interspersed with healthy coral heads. Maximum depth here bottoms out at about 28 metres, but does get deeper if you leave the bay going northwards. Gently sloping sides to the bay are covered in an assortment of hard corals and fans.

Dozens of concrete cubes and balls have been placed in the bay to attract and encourage marine life and, it seems to have worked a treat. It's possible to see anything here, from Mantas to Ghost Pipefish. A single head of finger coral can be home to seven or more Frogfish, while some retiring Harlequin Shrimps have also made a home under one particular rock at 14 metres. Morays, Scorpionfish, Stingrays and Octopus are commonly spotted here. The visibility here can be changeable, but don't be surprised if on your trip here you get to experience 30+ metres. SMB's are a must here due to the volume of boat traffic passing overhead in all directions.
