Boulder City Similans

Boulder City is a great dive site located south east of island number three. Huge submerged granite boulders make for an interesting and exhilarating dive. The underwater scenery is simply awesome. There is a fair amount of soft corals and sea fans covering parts of the boulders and algae over the rocks attracts smaller critters like Nudibranchs and Spanish Dancers. Larger pelagics like Barracuda and Jacks patrol the vicinity, and sometimes Manta Rays and Whalesharks have been seen cruising past. Whitetip Reef Sharks are regularly spotted lazing on the sandy bottom at 30+ metres.

Currents can be very strong here at certain times of the lunar cycle and maximum depth here is a little over 40 metres. Sometimes it's necessary to swim mid water between boulders, and against a strong current, so this dive site is better suited to experienced divers. It's very easy to get tired on this dive site if the conditions are right, so make sure there is a detailed dive plan in the pre dive briefing. The highest point of the shallowest boulder is at about 12 metres. A lot of this dive is spent exploring quite deep, so make sure you keep an eye on your dive computers on this one.

Never be shy to let your buddy, or dive guide know if you're getting tired or breathless on a dive. It's better to take a rest with your buddy, than to let it develop into a dangerous situation. This is especially true for this site.
