| Submerged just off Beacon Beach lies the sunken Liveaboard Atlantis X. She started taking on water and sunk in August 2002. The Captain tried in vain, apparently, to run her onto the beach to save her, but she became caught on the shallow reef and slipped backwards down the slope. This is where she lays at rest today, with her bow resting on the upwards slope pointing towards the beach. Thankfully, all passengers and crew made it to safety. The visibility is usually good here, so it makes for great wide shots for photos or video. The boat is a single hull and is approximately 28 metres in length. When seaworthy, Atlantis X had accommodation for 14 guests. Today, she is home to many reef fish, including Batfish, Lionfish and some large Potato Groupers. |
Although the top of the boat barely reaches 15 metres, it's a great dive for beginners, as they can circle the top part of the boat a couple of times at 18m, before continuing the dive into shallower water and onto the dive site, Beacon Beach. |
